$13 billion revenue from thermal plant sale

Speaking at a press conference regarding the handover ceremony of Kangal Thermal Plant, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said that Turkey has gained $13 billion so far from privatization of electricity distribution, adding that they they hope to gain another $13 billion from production plants. For his part, Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek stated that Turkey would post $13 billion current account surplus, if it became self-sufficient in its energy needs. Simsek added that Turkey possesses a huge volume of thermal plant capacity and he was truly content to be present in this ceremony since Kangal Termik, along with its co-bidder Konya Seker Sanayi-Siyahkalem Muhendislik, with whom they offered the highest bid and won the tender, is the most financially inclusive company they initiated privatization with. Entering the fertilizer sector, Kangal has multiplied their capacity by 28 times and increased the number of their employees from 500 to 5,000.
