Turkey’s Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputy leader in charge of external affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu accelerated the AKP’s long-held plans to open offices abroad and looked for an appropriate venue for the office in Brussels. Stating that the office in Brussels should be considered a very important development in Turkey’s path towards democratization, Bagis said that unless the EU comes to us, we would go to the EU. For his part, Cavusoglu said that EU membership was the greatest foreign policy vision of Turkey and that it would remain so, adding that they would also open offices in New York, Berlin and London.
