Europe faces a growing threat from spreading racism, and Turkey's European Union accession is the only remedy, said State Minister and Chief EU Talks Negotiator Egemen Bagis yesterday. "Sick, racist minds have no right to stain the European Union, its philosophy and democracy," he added, stressing that the best response to Europe's growing racism and xenophobia is to further support and develop its principles of democracy. "The only remedy for this sick mentality is Turkey's EU membership," Bagis stated. Saying that Anatolia is a cradle of civilizations and faiths which has seen no violations of rights for centuries, Bagis added, "For this reason, Turkey's EU membership is an opportunity, and will be one of world history's turning points."
