EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis yesterday traveled to Denmark to discuss the Roj TV issue, cooperation against the terrorist PKK and Turkey's sensitivities regarding the EU. Speaking at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport prior to his departure, Bagis said, "I'm traveling to the Danish capital of Copenhagen which will undertake EU term presidency in January. In Copenhagen, we will seize the opportunity of discussing Turkey's sensitivities regarding the EU with Danish officials." Bagis stated that they would meet with officials from non-governmental organizations, Danish media and Turkish people living in Copenhagen to listen to their problems and evaluate issues such as Cyprus, visa and cooperation against the terrorist PKK. He added that he believed his visit would be important in terms of Turkey's interests, particularly at a time when the Roj TV trial is underway. In Copenhagen, Bagis made another statement following his meeting with Danish Minister for European Affairs Nicolai Wammen, saying that there have been always ups and downs in Turkey's relations with the EU, but Turkey's EU membership would serve interests of both sides and Turkey would exert further efforts to make progress in its membership talks. Bagis added that they also discussed the Roj TV issue, saying that they now expect independent Danish judiciary to make a fair decision about that.
