During a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the sidelines of the 67th term meetings of the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that there was a deadlock at the UN Security Council on Syria which resembled the mentality during the Cold War. "Such a deadlock has negative implications on Turkey and other regional countries," Davutoglu noted. For his part, Ban thanked Davutoglu, saying, "We watch with appreciation Turkey's restraint on Syria in response to incidents at the Turkish-Syrian border," secondly emphasizing that they watch with great appreciation Turkey's assistance to Syrian refugees in Turkey. "We are aware of the burden Turkey faces. The UN has mobilized to ease this burden across the world. However, the aid is not sufficient. I will repeat my calls on this issue during the General Assembly," Ban added.
