Caglayan: Turkey so far reserved $360 million for Syrian refugees
Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan received Ertharin Cousin, executive director of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), in Ankara on Monday. Stating that a total of 153,000 Syrian refugees were staying in 13 tent sites and one container site in seven provinces of Turkey, Caglayan said that Turkey so far reserved $360 million for Syrian refugees. Caglayan added that Syrian refugees living in camp in the southern Turkish province of Kilis would take part in elections on January 17 to select village headmen and an administrative council. "Our Syrian brothers and sisters will elect their own village headmen and administrative council members in a way that they are not accustomed to. Actually I attach great importance to these elections, because this is a very significant step taken by our Syrian brothers and sisters on their road to democratization and I consider this a very important beginning," Caglayan added.
