California University hosting Ottoman map exhibit

California State University at Bernadino's Center for Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies is hosting an exhibit on Katip Celebi and Ottoman maps through this Saturday. The Civilization Studies Center of Istanbul's Bahcesehir University (MEDAM), the first such research center in Turkey, is having the exhibit tour the US as part of 400th birthday of Katip Celebi, an Ottoman scholar known his work in a number of scientific areas ranging from medicine to geography, and history to astronomy. UNESCO has declared 2009 the Year of Katip Celebi.
