Coordination meeting held on Syria on growing number of Syrian refugees

A coordination meeting was held at the Prime Ministry, Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) in Ankara on Tuesday regarding the situation of Syrians who have been staying in camps in Turkey.  The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay, along with Justice Minister Sadullah Ergin, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Deputy Interior Minister Osman Gunes, National Intelligence Agency (MIT) Undersecretary Hakan Fidan, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's chief advisor Ibrahim Kalin and AFAD Chairman Fuat Oktay. Replying to reporters prior to the meeting, Atalay reiterated that the number Syrians fleeing Turkey due to the incidents in Syria has been increasing. In response to a question on the incidents that took place in camps in southeast Turkey, Atalay said that the number of Syrians fleeing the violence in their countries has reached 43,000. "As the civil war inside Syria picks up, groups of people are coming each day. More people are coming to the border with Turkey. We have taken serious precautions, both in the form of tent cities and container cities," Atalay added.
