Turkey’s freedom of navigation in Mediterranean shows that it might come up against the Greek Cypriot administration. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu’s statements mean that Turkey won’t recognize any application on the 50–mile safety line established by Israel in Eastern Mediterranean, but Israel and the Greek Cypriot administration are jointly getting ready for exploring natural gas in Eastern Mediterranean.  The Greek Cypriot administration, which has previously signed an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) delimitation agreement with Israel, stated that it wouldn’t take a step back from its plan to explore hydrocarbon in the 12nd parcel near Israel. Once Turkey criticized the Greek Cypriot administration’s plans to explore oil in Eastern Mediterranean, Greek Defense Minister Panos Beglitis said that Turkey has isolated itself from the international community with such a policy. Furthermore, Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou – Marcoullis and his Greek counterpart Stavros Lambrinidis claimed during the Informal EU Foreign Ministers Meeting held in Poland on September 2-3 that Turkey’s stance violated the international law, causing instability in Eastern Mediterranean. Accordingly, Greek Cypriot and Greek ministers said that Turkey has threatened a member country with its statements about natural gas exploration and thus called on EU term president Poland to warn Ankara on behalf of the EU.
