Davutoglu: "Aid flotilla organizers should wait to see how Egypt ending its embargo changes things"
"Organizers of a Gaza aid flotilla set for later this month should wait to see how Egypt lifting its embargo affects conditions on the ground, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said yesterday. Suggesting for the first time that flotilla organizers reconsider their plans, Davutoglu also reiterated that the government can't stop the activities of a civilian group, saying it is supported by a number of international organizations and that its work is legal. But he said the flotilla should wait to see how conditions in Gaza change with Egypt lifting its embargo and the anticipated establishment of a Palestinian unity government. "No one should even imagine that the worst-case scenario could happen," Davutoglu said, adding that to avoid a repeat of last year's tragedy, Israel should also do its part. Last year's Mavi Marmara-led aid flotilla was raided by Israeli forces, leading to the deaths of nine Turkish peace activists.
