Using merely domestic resources, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) has developed the Real Time Operating System (RTOS) - a system which is employed in all defense systems and of which there are only 11 examples in the world. The system allows for the development of crucial technologic devices such as unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters and aircrafts which are employed in defense systems. As all of the software will be designed domestically, a possible foreign intervention will be eliminated. Speaking on the issue, Science, Industry and Technology Minister Nihat Ergun said, "In confidential projects, in cases where national operating systems were not employed, we needed to give some project information to the corporation that sold the operating system, and thus to a foreign country. The use of national operating systems in defense projects will prevent the disclosure of crucial data and ensure a complete nationalization of embedded systems." Following satellites, rockets, radars and sonar, TUBITAK developed the RTOS with domestic resources completely. Underlining that Turkish engineers have devised the RTOS, owned by a few countries such as the US, Israel, South Korea and Canada, Ergun said, "You cannot feel safe from infiltrations and interventions unless you develop these systems domestically. TUBITAK managed to develop the DO-178B Real Time Operating System. We now have the 12th system in the world."
