As a result of 12 hours of talks on Monday in Brussels, British Foreign Secretary William Hague announced that the European Union agreed to lift its embargo against arming Syrian rebels. Britain and France supported the lifting of the arms embargo while Austria was reticent about pouring more arms into the conflict. Speaking after a meeting of foreign ministers, Hague said the decision "sends a very strong message from Europe to the Assad regime."
