EU opens talks with Turkey on taxation chapter
The taxation policy chapter of Turkey's European Union accession negotiations was opened yesterday in Brussels at an intergovernmental conference. Turkey was represented by chief negotiator for EU talks and State Minister Egemen Bagis, and Swedish Foreign Minister Jean Kohout, whose country holds the EU term presidency. European Commission Enlargement Directorate head Michael Leigh also took part in the meeting. Since its EU negotiations began in fall 2005, Turkey has opened chapters in 11 policy areas, including taxation.
