Turkey's family violence protection system leaves women and young girls unprotected from domestic abuse, said the US-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) in a report released yesterday. According to the 58-page report called “Family Violence in Turkey and Access to Protection”, girls and women aged between 14 and 65 have been subject to severe physical, sexual and psychological violence. The report reflects that court-issued protection orders and emergency shelters are not available for many abuse victims because of gaps in the law and failures in its enforcement.
