In India, president Gul takes splendor of Taj Mahal
Visiting the world-famous Taj Mahal as part of his landmark trip to India yesterday, President Abdullah Gul declared the historical building "magnificent." Gul traveled to Agra from New Delhi together with his wife Hayrunnisa and the delegation accompanying him. Together they visited Taj Mahal, whose construction was commissioned by Shag Jahan, one of India 's Mughal emperors, as a mausoleum for his favorite wife, Arjumand Bano Begum, in the 17th century. Gul posed for a photo in front of the Taj Mahal alongside his wife and the delegation. After attending a luncheon hosted in his honor in Agra , Gul proceeded to Mumbai , India 's business center. There Turkish businesspeople accompanying Gul spoke with their Indian counterparts about investments and partnerships on the sidelines of a meeting of the Turkish-Indian Business Council. Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim, among Gul's delegation, met with his Indian counterpart Kamal Nath, with representatives of the Turkish transportation sector also in attendance. During the meeting, Yildirim briefed Nath on Turkish firms working in the sector, saying that they are using the latest technology. For his part, Nath said his country plans to build 7,000 kilometers of highways and called on Turkish firms to get their share of these projects.
