In Washington on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu discussed relations with Israel as well as the incidents of 1915 with leading US congressmen. Davutoglu reportedly reiterated Turkey's expectation that Israel should apologize and pay compensation for its attack on the Mavi Marmara aid ship this May that killed nine Turks, including one Turkish-American citizen. Calling the Israeli attack a breach of international law, Davutoglu said Turkey cooperated with a UN investigation of the incident. Davutoglu tried to outline Turkey's perspective on several issues for the congressmen, and in return to learn their views. Meeting with members of the House Foreign Relations Committee, Davutoglu warned that a resolution on the incidents of 1915 which the committee passed this March could harm Turkish-US relations and cited Turkey's initiatives to shed light on the incidents. On Monday Davutoglu met with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, National Security Adviser Ton Donilon, and European Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fule. Davutoglu left the US yesterday to proceed to an Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) summit in Kazakhstan.
