Istanbul and Benghazi become sister cities

Libyan city of Benghazi has become a sister city with Istanbul in a protocol signed by Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Kadir Topbas and Chairman of City Council of Benghazi Mahmoud Burazziza. Speaking at the signature ceremony, Topbas stressed the importance of historical ties between Turkey and Libya. Reiterating that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has provided substantial support for the reconstruction of Libya, Topbas said, "We are continuing to give such support in terms of local administrations. In the process of initiating important cooperation between Istanbul and Benghazi, we will be at the same time in collaboration as the people of two countries enjoying friendly and brotherhood ties throughout history. We will make contributions to Benghazi in many fields extending from infrastructure to transportation, environment, solid waste management and social structure. For his part, Burazziza said that when they visited Turkey, they make themselves at home.  "That's why we came to this city with which we share historical ties," Burazziza added.
