Istanbul Museum of Modern Art organized an exhibition at the world famous Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam to celebrate 400 years of diplomatic relations between Turkey and the Netherlands. The exhibition, gathering together works by 14 artists from different periods, was opened as part of a public event attended by thousands of people in Rotterdam over the weekend. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Istanbul Modern Chairman of Board Oya Eczacibasi said that the exhibition was especially important in terms of joint events between the two countries. "We believe that jointly organized cultural and art events make great contributions to further strengthening rooted relations between Turkey and the Netherlands. We hope that such cultural sharing will be increased in the future through new cooperation possibilities among the institutions," Eczacibasi said. Furthermore, Sjarel Ex, Director of the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum, stressed the importance of cultural exchange between the two institutions through two cities, which are both global port cities. Ex added that he personally believed that the exhibition would attract considerable interest of the people living in Rotterdam.
