Although the UN stresses European Union efforts to facilitate negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia, Kosovo's Ambassador to Ankara Bekim Sejdiu yesterday said his country welcomes any Turkish role in normalizing Kosovo-Serbia ties, in light of the respect Turkey has among both sides. Kosovo marks the third anniversary of its independence today. "Of course, Turkish contributions would be very welcomed," he said. "Turkey is a very well-respected country in Kosovo, but it also has good relations with Serbia." He added that Turkey understands the situation in the Balkans very well.
