Rasmussen: Solidarity with Turkey remains rock solid
Foreign ministers from 28 NATO countries met yesterday in Brussels to discuss the conflicts in Syria and Afghanistan. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu attended the meeting as the representative of Turkey. Following the meeting, important statements were made on Turkey and Syria. Speaking at a press conference, NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said NATO was worried about the risk of a conflict spilling over Syria's borders. "The situation in Syria has dramatically deteriorated. This continues to pose a threat to regional stability," Rasmussen said, adding that they are ready to defend Turkey in case of a spillover over the Syrian crisis. "I can assure you that we stand ready to defend, protect our allies, in this case Turkey, as a neighbor of Syria. We have all plans ready to ensure effective defense and protection of Turkey," he said. Reiterating his ideas on Turkey, Rasmussen wrote on his Twitter account that they also talked about Patriot deployment to Turkey. "Our solidarity with Turkey remains rock solid. NATO ally Turkey already faced incidents," he wrote.
