Religious Affairs Directorate head Mehmet Gormez yesterday announced a new aid campaign for Africa during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Using the terms fitrah, meaning a small amount of alms Muslims give to those in need during Ramadan, and iftar, the fast-breaking meal during Ramadan, the program is called "One Fitrah and One Iftar to Africa from Every Home." Speaking at Ataturk Sports Hall, Gormez said the campaign, which starts next Monday, was organized in cooperation with other religious officials. To make a TL 5 donation, cellphone users can text the word "AFRIKA" to the number 5601 during the month.
