Retired supreme court member elected as Turkey's first chief ombdusman
Mehmet Nihat Omeroglu, a retired member of the Supreme Court of Appeals, was elected as Turkey's first Chief Ombudsman by Parliament on Tuesday evening. The Parliamentary Joint Commission, comprised of members of the parliamentary petition and human rights commissions, has recently made up its mind on who will take office as the chief ombudsman, the position that heads Turkey's recently established Public Inspector Office. The commission had decided on three nominees -- Yavuz Erkmen, Mehmet Nihat Omeroglu and Halime Nuray Turcan -- for the position. Omeroglu was elected chief ombudsman from the three candidates by Parliament.
