The Financial Times daily yesterday wrote that the step taken by Turkey with regard to sanctions to be imposed on Syria was "particularly significant." The daily wrote, "The fresh round of European measures come as Ankara imposed its own sanctions on Syria, which are seen as particularly significant." The Al Jazeera news agency yesterday announced that Turkey would freeze the assets of Bashar al-Assad's government along with other measures, adding, "Davutoglu had said on Tuesday that Turkey was ready for any scenario if Syria continues its crackdown on protests against Assad, but that his country is opposed to a military option against its neighbour." The British news agency BBC also stressed, "Turkey's sanctions mostly target the Syrian leadership," reiterating that "Last week a convoy of Turkish buses was fired at by Syrian troops."
