Turkey has reacted harshly to a parliamentary bill introduced by the Basque Country's pro-independence Euskal Herria Bildu Party, after the party offered to debate an anti-Turkey bill which requests the EU Council to obstruct Turkey's EU membership bid as long as the country continues to oppress Kurdish militants. Turkey's Ambassador to Madrid Ayşe Sinirlioglu took action against the bill which was presented to the Basque parliament on February 5 through a letter to Basque Parliament Speaker Bakartxo Tejeria. In her letter, Sinirlioglu stressed that the bill, which included serious accusations and misinformation about Turkey, should be rectified, and that it was unacceptable to have a bill against the basic principles of law. Sinirlioglu reacted harshly to the bill as Turkey was held accountable for the recent killing of three Kurdish women linked to the terrorist PKK in Paris which are still under investigation. Sinirlioglu also warned of potential damage to Turkey's good relations with the Basque region and Spain as a result of Bildu's move.
