Solana: Turkey should join EU

Javier Solana, the European Union's Former High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, evaluated Turkey-EU relations and the Cyprus Issue at a conference organized in Washington D.C. by Istanbul’s Sabanci University. Speaking at the conference, Solana said that it was his desire to see Turkey become a full member of the European Union. Solana also expressed the view that the European Union, which had allowed the Greek Cypriot Administration to join the bloc on its own, should exert more efforts for a solution in Cyprus so as to allow Turkey to continue its accession negotiations
