The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is organizing memorial events in 2013 to mark the 500th anniversary of the famous world map of Ottoman admiral and cartographer Piri Reis. In this regard, an exhibition featuring the maps crafted by Piri Reis and also his famous work Kitab-i Bahriye is now being held at the Topkapi Palace to run until February 23. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Culture and Tourism Minister Ertugrul Gunay said that Piri Reis was a significant sailor and scientist.
