Turkey and South Korea cooperate in rehabilitation of coal sites and power plants in Turkey

Energy Minister Taner Yildiz and South Korean Information Economy Minister Hong Suk-woo yesterday attended the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the Turkey's state-run Electricity Generation A.S. (EUAS) and a consortium of SK E&C and the state-run Korea South-East Power Co. (KOSEP) regarding the rehabilitation of coal sites, as well as available coal power plants in Afsin-Elbistan. Speaking at the ceremony, Suk-woo said that the energy sector was greatly important as part of cooperation between the two countries, and expressed his gladness with Turkey's preference of South Korea in rehabilitation of coal sites and power plants in Afsin-Elbistan. In reply to a question on a nuclear power plant which is set to be established in northern city of Sinop, Suk-woo said, "We are interested in this project, which is planned to be implemented in Sinop. The negotiations might start in this month." Speaking in his part, Yildiz said that cooperation between the two countries which understand each other very well would continue.
