Turkey intends to provide Rohingya Muslims with food aid

In the midst of continuing violence against the Rohingya Muslims in the province of Arakan, the location of recently escalating violence in Myanmar, near Bangladesh, the Myanmar administration prevents media institutions from entering the region. According Myanmar authorities, the death toll is approximately 80, but activist groups of Rohingya Muslims say that the number of victims climbed to thousands of people. Rohingya Muslims are not seen as citizens of Myanmar by nationalist Myanmar leaders, and in turn are exposed to discrimination. The Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief (IHH) representative to Myanmar Officer Sait Demir said that a great many people have lost their lives as a result of attacks against the Rohingya Muslims. Stating that he visited Myanmar last week, Demir said, "In the last one month, approximately 1,500 Muslims were massacred. These attacks are totally against Islam." Demir added that the IHH which has been exerting efforts in the region since 1994 would provide victims with substantial food aid in Ramadan.
