Turkey's new UN ambassador meets sec'y-general Ban

Turkey's new UN Ambassador Ertugrul Apakan yesterday met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at UN headquarters in New York and presented his diplomatic credentials. He also attended his first meeting of the UN Security Council, which extended the mission of the UN peacekeeping force (UNIFIL) in Lebanon through August 31, 2010. Turkey's former UN Ambassador Baki Ilkin, who served at the post since 2004, completed his term in office and retired last month.
