Turkish environmentalist honored by alternative Nobel
Turkish environmentalist Hayrettin Karaca, co-founder of the Turkish Foundation for Combating Soil Erosion, for Reforestation and the Protection of Natural Habitats (TEMA) was deemed worthy of the honorary prize within the context of the Right Livelihood Award by Sweden, also known as the "alternative Nobel." The jury said that Karaca would receive an honorary prize for "a lifetime of tireless advocacy and support for the protection and stewardship of our natural world." His prize will be presented at a ceremony on December 7.
