The US special envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Rashad Hussain, is visiting Turkey for a two-day trip starting on Wednesday to meet with Turkish officials and discuss Turkey’s OIC agenda, the US Embassy in Ankara announced on Tuesday. As special envoy to the OIC, the embassy statement said Hussain seeks to deepen and expand the partnerships that the United States has pursued with Muslims around the world as stated in US President Barack Obama’s historic Cairo speech. Hussain will visit Ankara and Istanbul during his first visit to Turkey. The US State Department’s special representative to Muslim communities, Farah Pandith, a position that was created following Obama’s Muslim outreach speech delivered in Cairo around a year ago, is the first person to serve in this role. She also visited Turkey this summer to talk to Turkish officials and meet religious leaders in the country. Obama announced the appointment of Hussain as the first special envoy to the OIC on Feb. 13 of this year, as part of his broad policy to engage Muslims all across the world.
