US' Gordon: Turkey has again proved itself a key ally

Turkey played an important role at both last month's NATO Lisbon summit and the recent Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) summit in Kazakhstan , showing the skeptics that Ankara is an important US ally and is seeking a constructive role, said US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Gordon yesterday. Speaking to reporters in a teleconference, Gordon stated that even the best of friends can have disagreements, such as this summer's UN Security Council vote on Iran sanctions, but that the Lisbon summit showed that the US and Turkey are good friends and allies.
