Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay on Tuesday visited the Syrians staying in the container shelter site in southern Kilis province, saying that Turkey has spent $150 million for Syrians. Recalling that the violence has been prevalent in Syria over one year, Atalay said, "There are currently 23,682 Syrians in Turkey." Stating that the future of UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan’s plan will be evaluated by the UN and international community, Atalay said, "We wish the crackdown and violence in Syria against its own citizens ends up immediately. As we have been saying from the very beginning, Turkey has been taken its stand with regard to the Arab Spring, people’s demands and incidents in Syria. Within this framework, we have been and will be doing our best." Concerning the conflicts near Turkey’s border with Syria, Atalay said that there was no risk or danger for the Syrians living in the container shelter site in Kilis. Atalay later held a meeting with Kilis Governor Yusuf Odabas, as well as some bureaucrats in the province.
