Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag strongly criticized German magazine Der Spiegel for giving a headline translating the Turkish "Boyun Egme" (Do Not Surrender) in a gesture of support to the demonstrations which started as opposition to the demolition of Istanbul’s Gezi Park. In a televised speech on Sunday in response to the German magazine's actions, Bozdag said, "To whom are they making this call? They are appealing to those who are demonstrating on the pretext of Gezi Park and they are appealing to those people who are so called apolitical who are holding political demonstrations. To whom are they going to surrender? When you look at Turkey, there is democracy and a state of law. But what does the headline say? Do not give up the protests and never surrender."
