State Minister for Foreign Trade Zafer Caglayan hit back at Hyundai yesterday after the company said that further investments in Turkey are unlikely if a bilateral free trade agreement is postponed. "Nobody should think they can outsmart us," Caglayan said in response to Hyundai President Steve S. Yang's comments. Caglayan also said Yang's statements were an attempt to manipulate the situation, saying, "South Korea is acting this way on purpose." Citing Turkey's participation in the Korean War 60 years ago on the side of South Korea, Caglayan said, "The statements of the president are by no means convincing, because South Korea is a friend and has been an ally for many years." He added that South Korea is forgetting what Turkey did for it and demanding compromises that it can't get from European countries.
