Davutoglu confirms Istanbul as host to nuclear talks
After many discussions on the venue for nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 (permanent UN Security Council countries plus Germany), Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu officially confirmed on Tuesday that the meeting would be held in Istanbul on April 14. Davutoglu also cut his visit to China short and returned to Turkey following tensions with Syria, which escalated after Syrian forces fired across the border at a refugee camp in Turkey on Monday. Before departing for Turkey, Davutoğlu spoke with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well his Russian, British and French counterparts on the phone. Davutoglu told Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that violence in Syria has become a security problem for Turkey's border along with humanitarian situation, and that it would be natural for Turkey to take necessary measures, in case this is repeated. Davutoglu also had talks with his Chinese counterpart and UN chief Ban Ki-moon to discuss Syria.
