Fule: "Turkey is a key country for EU"
Stefan Fule, EU commissioner for enlargement and European neighborhood policy, yesterday spoke to reporters in Brussels, after the EU has released its progress report on Turkey. Stating that "no one has any intention to make Turkey's negotiations a subject for the Guinness Book of Records," Fule described Turkey as a key country for the EU with a dynamic economy, strategic location and an important role in the region. "In recent months, cooperation between Turkey and some EU countries improved and that they made some solid proposals to Ankara so the existing cooperation against terror moves forward," Fule added. Fule also thanked Turkey's Minister of EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis for his strong support for the positive agenda, which has been initiated to reinforce and complement membership talks between Turkey and the EU.
