President Abdullah Gul who is currently on a three-day official visit to Tunisia was welcomed as part of modern protocol rules in that country. Tunisian government which is not experienced enough on modern protocol rules asked for help from the Turkish delegation with regard to preparations for ceremony. President Gul who landed in Tunisia airport was welcomed by Tunisian President Munsif Marzuqi, Tunisian National Constituent Assembly Speaker Mustapha Ben Jafar and Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali. Tunisia, which is witnessing a democratic transition, has signaled that traces of the former dictatorial regime were being removed. The military band also played national anthems of the two countries at the welcoming ceremony. Gul who is set to start his official meetings today will attend private and inter delegation meetings at the Carthage Palace. Furthermore, Gul has issued a message on the occasion of International Women's Day, saying that the level of women's participation in areas of education and health is pleasing, yet their lack of sufficient participation in politics and labour force is a deficiency. Gul also noted that men's support was very important, while women claim their rights and freedoms.
