Signing a provisional agreement for the organization of football on the island, Greek and Turkish Cypriot football associations has taken the first step for such cooperation in the history of Cypriot football. Upon having official talks in the Zurich bureau of FIFA, Turkish Cyprus Football Association (CTFA) President Hasan Sertoglu and Greek Cyprus Football Association (CFA) President Costakis Koutsokoumnis signed the provisional agreement which ended the isolation of the clubs from one another. During the press conference, FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter said, "Both the Greek Cyprus Football Association and the Cyprus Turkish Football Association are today providing the whole world with an excellent example of how football could build bridges and bring people together after a long period of conflict." According to the provisional agreement, while Turkish Cyprus Football Association will be subjected to the regulations and status of Greeks, Greek Cyprus Football Association, member of UEFA and FIFA, will be entitled to organize and implement football contests.
