A delegation of two senior high-ranking opposition lawmakers, namely Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy leader Faruk Logoglu and Istanbul deputy Osman Koruturk departed for a three-day visit to Egypt yesterday. Having planned the visit upon the invitation of the Egyptian foreign minister, the delegation will pass the message that democratic elections and transition to democracy should be ensured immediately. They are also expected to raise the issue of Metin Turan, a correspondent for the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation being held under detention. In response to strong criticisms from the government accusing the CHP of ‘talking to coup plotters', Logoglu noted that CHP never sided with coup plotters and that they had not attempted to schedule a meeting with overthrown Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, but they were planning to meet with representatives from the Muslim Brotherhood movement.
