Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said yesterday that NATO and the U.S. continue to provide instant intelligence to Turkey in its fight against the terrorist PKK. Erdogan said US President Barrack Obama assured him in their last meeting that the intelligence sharing would continue. Erdogan's comments came after NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Sunday that NATO supported Turkey's efforts to peacefully resolve the conflict with the PKK. Rasmussen also said NATO would not share information gathered from a radar to be deployed in southeastern Turkey with Israel and would not involve itself in Turkey's disputes with Cyprus and Israel in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. "Our works continue in the Mediterranean. As a NATO member, Turkey did not expect any other stance from NATO," Erdogan said. "The process here involves a problem between Turkey and Israel, as well as between Turkey and the Greek Cypriot administration. The Greek Cypriot administration's attempts are sabotaging the negotiations process. Their preference for Israel is another sabotage of the negotiations," Erdogan said. Erdogan made his remarks before departing Istanbul yesterday for an official trip to South Africa.
