Pamuk's Nobel Prize interst in Turkish literature

Culture and Tourism Minister Ertugrul Gunay said yesterday that Orhan Pamuk's Nobel Prize in Literature has substantially increased Turkey's attendance into the Translation Subvention Program of Turkey (TEDA) in terms of diversity of author, production and country. In response to a parliamentary question asked by Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Aylin Nazliaka, Gunay said that the Ministry's TEDA Program was a translation and publication support program based on translating classical and contemporary examples of Turkish culture, arts and literature into languages of other countries, as well as publishing and promoting them. "The diversity of number of applicant countries was evident and applications were initially received from Finland, Ukraine, Brazil, Macedonia, Austria, Bulgaria, Iran, Taiwan and Russia in 2006. In addition to novels and poetry, an increase in diversity has been achieved in other works in such areas as history, theatre and journey-review," Gunay said, adding that the Ministry has supported a total of 985 works in 42 languages from 50 countries among which 714 works have been published on February 9, 2012.
