Environment and Urban Planning Minister Erdogan Bayraktar said at a press meeting on Wednesday that a new piece of legislation which is often referred to as the reciprocity law aiming at allowing foreigners to purchase property in Turkey has taken effect, even if Turks do not enjoy the same right in those same foreign countries. Speaking to reporters at the General Directorate of Land Registers, Bayraktar said that now the citizens of 183 nations were allowed to acquire fixed property, buildings and land in Turkey. Stating that Turkey has been attracting the attention of many nations throughout history thanks to its quality as a bridge between continents and cultures, Bayraktar said that bill concerning the sale of land to foreigners eliminated the reciprocity requirement and increased the limit on the size of land able to be bought by foreigners to 30 hectares.
