TRNC President Eroglu in Brussels for talks
In Brussels yesterday for talks with senior European Union officials following a recent meeting in Geneva with the Greek Cypriot leader, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Dervis Eroglu yesterday asked European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek why Turkish hasn't been adopted as an official language. On his tour of the EP, Eroglu said he saw booths for Greek, English, French and Spanish translators, but none for Turkish, a language spoken both in Turkey and on Cyprus. "I said that the EP should have looked at the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus," which mentions Turkish as a mother tongue language, Eroglu said. In 2004 Greek Cyprus joined the EU illicitly representing the whole island.
