Turkey ranks fourth in tomato production worldwide
Turkey ranked fourth in the world after China, India and the US in 2011 with more than 11 million tons of tomato production. China, with 48.6 million tons of tomato production, supplies 30.55 percent of the total world production. India supplies 10.58 percent, US 7.94 percent and Turkey 6.92 percent of 159 million tons of production worldwide. According to data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), 159,023,383 tons of tomatoes are produced in 4,734,356 hectares of land in the world, Chairman of the Union of Turkish Agricultural Chambers (TZOB) Semsi Bayraktar said in a statement.
