After French President Nicolas Sarkozy urged Turkey last week in the Armenian capital of Yerevan to recognize the so-called Armenian genocide, Turkish Ambassador to Paris Tahsin Burcuoglu visited the Elysee Palace to deliver Turkey's official response. As part of his visit to Sarkozy's Foreign Policy Advisor Jean David Levitte, Burcuoğlu said that Sarkozy was distorting the facts and considered the statements made by politicians based on political interests as considerably wrong. Burcuoglu added that Turkey rejected and condemned the statements made by Sarkozy, whose stance had deeply inured the historical ties between Turkey and France.
