Turkey's Mustafa Sayar wins 49th Presidential Cycling Tour
Turkish cyclist Mustafa Sayar of the cycling team Konya Torku Şeker Spor placed first in the general individual classification of the 49th annual Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey (TUR) in İstanbul on Sunday. A total of 175 cyclists participated in the "İstanbul-İstanbul" stage of the race. The tour, which kicked off on April 21 in Antalya's Alanya, concluded in İstanbul's Caddebostan after the cyclists raced across the Bosporus Bridge. President Abdullah Gül, his wife Hayrunnisa Gül and Youth and Sports Minister Suat Kılıç presented the awards to the winners. Sayar won the competition's most coveted award, the "Turquois T-shirt." The president described Sayar's victory as a "source of pride for Turkey." He said that events such as TUR contribute to the global promotion of Turkey and are gradually preparing the country to host the Olympics, which it hopes to see in İstanbul in 2020. He noted that 156 countries broadcast the tour live, and they displayed most beautiful places of Turkey during their broadcast.
