Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek is expected to attend this year's World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland later this month. Since the 2009 meetings, where Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan stormed out of a panel on Palestine after a heated exchange with Israeli President Shimon Peres, no Cabinet member from Turkey has attended Davos. Central Bank Governor Durmus Yilmaz attended last year's meetings. Sources said Simsek is scheduled to attend this year's meetings, where prominent government, business and economic figures from around the world discuss the world economy and international issues, but added that he might have to bow out if important legislation comes up in Parliament in the runup to this year's general elections.
