Assad's retaliation costs Syria 150 million USD
The economic results of Turkey's set of nine sanctions aimed at supporting the Arab League plan are apparent for Syria now. Reportedly, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime suffered a loss of $150 million since last December as a result of an increase in entry fee for each truck entering Syria, as part of a retaliation policy to react to Turkish sanctions. According to the numbers given by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Turkish exports to Syria declined by approximately $28 million following the embargo plan. Officials from the Ministry of Customs and Trade Ministry reported that because of the increased fees, the number of trucks crossing the border on a daily basis fell from five thousand to 300 trucks last month, which has further led to a serious decline in exports and imports. The officials stressed that losses have surpassed $ 150 million.
