Babacan: "Income distribution in Turkey has gradually improved"
Speaking at the Investment in Turkey Texas Pacific Group (TPG) Perspective Conference, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan said yesterday that the income distribution in Turkey has gradually improved and the gap between the rich and poor has been decreased. "There has been a rapid growth in the middle class in Turkey, which consists of a young domestic market with better incomes and a population of 74 million. The middle class will be further strengthened and become more important in economy and this situation makes Turkey attractive to international investors," said Babacan. He said that more than 30 million tourists would visit Turkey this year, adding, "The number of people who are willing to become a Turkish citizen and receive a Turkish passport is gradually increasing. The Turkish passport opens many doors in this geography. Accordingly, these developments should not be considered a coincidence."
